Father’s Day is a great reminder of how much we love the dads in our lives and how much they mean to us. It helps us to stop and take a minute to reflect on our relationship and everything they do for us. Therefore, in order to celebrate Father’s Day, not just on the holiday but every day, let’s learn what our dads love language is!

By learning someone’s love language you can better show them appreciation all year long.

So what is a love language?

There are five types of love languages; words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, quality time, and physical touch.

Words of Affirmation

Using your words to tell someone you love them, like saying, “I love you”.

Acts of Service

Actions that show someone you love them, like doing the dishes.

Receiving Gifts

This one is pretty self-explanatory. However, this language can mean more than a “gift”, it could be something like grabbing them a special treat on your way home from work.

Quality Time

This means showing your love by spending time with that person. This could be simply eating dinner together after a long day or planning a special date night.

Physical Touch

If someone’s love lanuage is touch, they may like to receive a hug or a cuddle.

Why learn someone’s love language?

Learning someone’s love language helps us to better show love and strengthen our relationship in the process. We often assume that others will know how much they mean to us by doing what we would like done for us. For example, I feel most appreciated when I receive a nice text in the morning. My love language is words of affirmation. However, my partner may feel more loved if I do the laundry. Their love language is acts of service.

Being aware of someone’s love language allows us to gain a deeper understanding of the other person. The act of learning their love language itself shows how much we car. By knowing someone’s love language we are able to be more intentional about how we show love and, hopefully, show that love every day, not just on the holidays.
