Is your home feeling a little extra empty this year? Have the kids have gone away and the old traditions just aren’t the same?

This is the perfect time to reconnect with your spouse and breathe new life into the holidays.

The holidays were amazing with little ones running around, but they can be just as amazing as you rekindle the love between you and your spouse!

Here are some holiday ideas for you and your favorite person:

  1. Holiday movie marathon

You no longer have to watch The Grinch every Christmas. Instead, do a movie marathon with YOUR holiday favorite. These could include some not-so-kid favorites like Love Actually.

  1. Do a funny holiday card

Send your kids and family a funny new holiday card every year. This could involve you dressing up as your favorite 80s rock starts or simply wearing your favorite tacky sweaters. Make it fun and make it light!

This will be something you and your spouse can be creative on together. It will also be the most looked-forward-to holiday card for everyone!

  1. Exchange experiences instead of gifts

Instead of stuffing stockings with more socks and shaving kits, buy a painting class or skydiving lesson instead!

  1. Take a vacation!

While the kids are at the in-laws, book a vacation somewhere you’ve always wanted to go. It could be somewhere warm like a tropical island or a magical little Christmas town.

Find a new spot to explore with each other. Your kids may even get jealous and want to join next year!

  1. Exchange ornaments

Make the new tradition of exchanging ornaments every year with your spouse. The ornament could represent an experience you had together this past year or just be an ornament of their favorite food or activity.  Get creative!

The holidays as an empty nester can be tough. But they can also be fun and exciting! We hope this list gave you some great ideas to start the holidays anew!

Are the holidays rough as empty nesters?
