With an empty nest can also come a feeling of a void of love. You showered your little person with all of your love and attention for years upon years. Although that love will continue, there is a void for that love on a daily basis.

As an empty nester, one great way to fill that void is with a pet! The pet gives you someone to care for morning, noon, and night. Someone that depends on you, is excited to see you, and will happily receive all the love you have to offer!

So, maybe your not a pet person. You may need more convincing. Let’s dive into the many reasons why empty nesters should invite a new furry friend into their lives.

  1. Dogs can help you make friends

Along with the great exercise of a daily walk, walking with you dog can help you meet other people. Spark up a conversation with another dog walker, comment on their canine. As quickly as you want, these occurrences can turn into friendships. At the very least, they are a great way to get you out of the house, exercising, and making conversation.

  1. Dogs help you switch it up

Sometimes what your life needs as an empty nester is to be shaken up! And a dog will do just that. With a pet you will find a new cuddling routine, a new feeding schedule, and a new opportunity to get outside for those walks!

  1. Dogs are loyal

Every morning when you wake up or when you come home from running errands, your furry little friend will be right there to excitedly greet you home! This is a great boost for someone who is missing their children. No matter your mood or how you look, dogs will always be there to be your constant, loyal companion.

  1. Dogs bring new life into the house

For a house that was most likely loud and noisy before, dogs rejuvenate the household! With their energy and their love, they are a welcome addition to an empty nester home.

  1. Dogs provide a sense of purpose

There are so many wonderful animals out there who deserve and need love. While you have spent the large part of the past two decades raising children, you are used to caring for another. Find yourself a pet that you identify with and that you can lovingly care for.  Dogs will give you a meaning every day you wake up and always be there to love on you.
